Craig Cundey’s Flying Diary
Just an update on the flying.
Last weekend completed my 2 land away solos, both in the same day … quite unusual to do them on the same day ( So I have been told) a rather stressful experience and one a day is usually enough.
Have completed over 7 hours solo with 3 more to do followed by my Navigation exam then my General skills test should see me finished.

B Certificate Training
Notice to all holders of the A Certificate

Urgently required for club training
NOTICE TO ALL MEMBERS
CLUB TRAINING
This is an urgent appeal!
The majority of our Trainees have Spectrum and Futaba T/X’s . In order to provide Buddy Lead Instruction we have an urgent need for Slave T/X’s.
If any one has Futaba/Skysport or JR/Spectrum T/X’s, 35 mhz or 2.4 which they could donate to the Club it would be very much appreciated.
At this stage 1 Futaba/Skysport and 1 Spectrum/JR would enable us to carry out the required training.

Two practical tips applied to recent models from David Thorpe
Hand Balancing a model – not for exact scale aircraft
This tip was gleaned from a magazine or internet article but proved itself useful on the last glider I assembled and will suit IKEA DIY fanatics!! Use model instructions to determine where the CG should be then mark this lightly. Then under each wing, close to the root with the fuselage, stick one small domed soft blisters (used in flat pack furniture to prevent noisy door banging) at the C… Continue reading
Wanted – Futaba FP-T8SGA-P Transmitter
I am looking to buy an old Futaba FP-T8SGA-P Transmitter, like the one in the picture, and wondered if anyone might have a spare one for sale?
Any information or help would really be appreciated!

1:5 Scale A10 by Alex Jones
Last year I built and tested this 1/5 scale A10 at RMAC so thought the pictures may be of interest to members.
I caused some excitement when I took it down the field but I could only ground test it at that stage .
It was test flown at RAF Barkston Heath. The AUW wet, is around 29kg.
A4 Skyhawk Part 6
First of all I repaired the front wing tube guide and tied it into R2 with some decent ply, carbon cloth/tow, epoxy and finally the ply plate glued in with hysol.
The gear doors are just plain layup with no detail or depth to them so I decided on some scale as they are… Continue reading
A4 Skyhawk Part 5
I ordered lots of the missing scale parts from SM and I fully expected to be invoiced but to my surprise all the bits arrived on my door step free of charge!
There are a few problem areas on the wing, for instance the carbon spars slot into some epoxy/glass tubes but the front tubes aren’t tied into… Continue reading
F5B League Event
Flying will start at approx. 10am with course setup from 8:30.
We are always looking for people to come and try flying the F5B event. Basically any electric glider will do – We have flown the ST Blaze and an Easyglider Pro amongst others on the course before. They do not generally go very fast, but accuracy is more important than… Continue reading

Teething problems, serious elevon flutter at high speed, & death spin |
| The flutter is 95% cured but still persists at near 100mph in head wind, the spin was I think due to many combining factors producing the close call, factors like slow gliding down-wind, wings not level when prop kicked in (maybe tip-stall?) & an ESC with a very fast & sudden start, I changed the ESC for a better one that comes in gently… Continue reading |
Our field in 1945
Why not have a fresh look at your surroundings when you are resting between flights?
If you have any pictures that we could add to this archive please send them in. Do bear in mind any copyright issue!
First Person View from Rory Game
The basic set-up guide gives a more detailed account of the system but this is how I started.
I did lots of reading online to try to gain the knowledge required to start such a project as well as to gleam from the experience of others for making informed choices on the suitable types of available aircraft & electronic systems on the… Continue reading
Budget tug tows 1/5 scale glider.
We watched as the pattern-ship boys flew their routines, and the cloud base had clearly gone up somewhat so Paul fired up the T180 and we did a few successful tows with my Easyglider Pro on the back. After taking a… Continue reading
A4 Skyhawk Part 4
While working on the back end I thought it was a good time to add some scale(ish) detail to the speedbrake recesses. I’ve recently done this to a large F86 It was however pre- built and painted from D4S, for something relatively simple it really added an extra dimension to that model so I decided to do the same on my A4 but this time it would have to be scratch built.
A4 Skyhawk Part 3
| I’m mainly doing all the odd jobs to the airframe that don’t require any of the electrics as I haven’t ordered those yet. Still plenty to do though… |
| The rudder is removable and requires a bit of work as it damages the top of the fin as it moves so I’ll re profile the leading edge of the rudder towards the top. The servo arrangement is my least favourite method for rudders and if I was doing it initially I… Continue reading |
New Pilot Open Day – Precision Aerobatics
I am writing to find out if you have any pilots who would be interested in finding out about precision aerobatics.
The Great Britain Radio Control Aerobatic Association (GBRCAA) is delegated by the BMFA to organise precision aerobatics in GB. In order to generate more interest in this aspect of the sport, they support a New Pilot Open Day at which experienced aerobatic pilots will take rank newcomers to the sport under their wing. The… Continue reading
